5 Axis Simultaneous Contouring / Trimming of Formed Work Pieces (e.g. thermoforming moulds)

Schott Systeme GmbH have released their latest ‘live’ CAD/CAM software presentation demonstrating 5 axis trimming. 5-Axis curve machining enables the precise trimming along complex curved edges to facilitate the cutting out and trimming of thermoformed composite and plastic components. A technique that removes the need to manually ‘teach’ the toolpath movement, the user has full control of the tool orientation (automatic and manual) and offset / depth along the curve. This also enables the machining of curves without any 3D CAD model. A machine head simulation also provides collision monitoring between geometry such as machine head, holder, tool, part and clamping components.
